What and where is Loch Gryffyn?

Loch Gryffyn is a canton of the Barony of Darkwater, one of the six baronies in the Kingdom of Trimaris.  While the Kingdom of Trimaris represents a large percentage of Florida.   Loch Gryffyn represents Lake County SCA and many Sumter County SCA Members  (North and West of Orlando).

Business Meetings/Classes Fighter Practice
Meetings take place at Roger's Park in Leesburg Florida on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the Month at 7pm. Fighter Practice takes place on Thursdays at the park in Elizabeth Circle in Eustis Florida at 6:30pm.  Please join the Loch Gryffyn Fighter's Facebook group as practice can be cancelled based on weather or other circumstances.

What is the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA)?

The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and reenacting pre-17th century Europe and its contacts. The society's purpose is to explore  the best of the arts, sciences, crafts, culture and traditions of the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods. With 32000+ members, the SCA is the worlds largest group of medieval reenactors.  Basically, if it was done in the Middle Ages, someone in the SCA is researching it, practicing it, or performing it!

Where is the SCA located?

The Society for Creative Anachronism is organized into 19 Kingdoms worldwide. For detailed information on the global activities of the SCA, please visit  SCA's Introduction webpage.   Each Kingdom has a King and Queen.  Pictured above are Their Royal Majesties of the Kingdom of Trimaris, Mittion von Weald & Rosalinda de Santiago. The Kingdom of Trimaris represents the majority of the State of Florida.  Each Kingdom is broken down into smaller groups called Baronies, Shires, Cantons, Strongholds and Colleges.  SCA groups are all over the world.  Look for a group in your area on the SCA website.

What do we do at Loch Gryffyn meetings?

Loch Gryffyn Group Business -
Recent discussion involves growth of our group, minor repairs and plans for major repairs to Loch Gryffyn Hall (Leesburg FL),  working on Demos for when we can have them, and discussion of events (Interkingdom, Kingdom of Trimaris, Baronial events, and Loch Gryffyn).  We are very lucky that Camp Ocala is in Loch Gryffyn's backyard, which is the location of many of the events sponsored by the Kingdom of Trimaris and the Barony of Darkwater.

Loch Gryffyn Activities -
We generally have a class or activity of some sort at our meetings. We are presently working to decorate Loch Gryffyn Hall, which is 2400+ square feet, and includes restrooms and a storage room for our use.   We have to coordinate our renovations with the City of Leesburg since it is a city structure.  The hall is centrally located within Lake County and Sumter County and is easily accessed via the Florida Turnpike, and Highways 27, 441, 44, and  19.   It is our hope to have it in a condition to host daytrip events for the good of Trimaris!  In the past, classes included chain mail, henna, illumination, dancing, and brewing, and  medieval tents.

How can I get involved with the Society for Creative Anachronism and Loch Gryffyn?

Come to a Loch Gryffyn meeting with an interest in learning about medieval reenactment and living history.  Look at the calender for meeting dates and times.  Directions and a map are listed under SCA Locations.     If you have any questions, feel free to fill out the Contact Us form and someone will get back with you.

Not in Lake County or Sumter County but still interested in the SCA?

If you live in Florida (excluding parts of the pan handle), visiting the Kingdom of Trimaris website (http://www.trimaris.org/) will give you whom to contact.  If you live outside of Florida (Trimaris), please visit the Society for Creative Anachronism website at (http://www.sca.org/).  There are SCA groups all over the world!   If you are in Lake County or Sumter County, please stop by the Canton of Loch Gryffyn, in the heart of  the Kingdom of Trimaris.
